Stop worrying!

Stop worrying!

I can worry and I can stress out and if I am in one of my worrying moods the last thing I want to hear is "stop worrying".  While the situation may get better if I stop worrying and stressing out about things I cannot control, just telling me to not worry will not stop the worry and the stress that I feel. It will most likely add to the stress because now I am stressing out about not stressing out.

Stress and worry are natural human emotions, but if we spend to much time stressing out about things that happen and worrying about things we cannot control it can hinder our growth and cause health issues. While they are emotions that we all feel, we are not meant to feel them for an extended period of time.

When we are in a constant state of stress and worry our mind and body will feel the adverse effects. When we are stressed our bodies go through a physiological response called fight or flight. The fight or flight response “evolved out of the survival needs of our early ancestors living with the daily dangers of the time". (verywellmind.com) This response causes the body to release hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones give the body a surge of energy and strength. While this can help us for brief periods of time, the fight or flight response caused by stress and worry can harm us if we are constantly living in a state of stress and worry.

Some effects of being in a constant fight or flight response are fatigue, nausea, headaches, muscle aches, trembling, rapid breathing, memory loss, heart attack, and digestive disorders. (webmd.com) No one wants to have these symptoms and no one wants to stress and worry all the time. So what can we do to help us overcome the stress in our life?

One way to combat excessive worrying and stress is to exercise. Exercising is an effective way to relieve stress because exercising release the feel-good hormone endorphin. When your body releases endorphins with exercise your mood naturally changes to a more positive one. If you are not use to exercising start by taking a walk 2 or three times a week. Just walking can be uplifting and peaceful.
Exercise

Exercising can help you manage chronic stress. In order to do that it has to be habitual. To help you make exercising a habit, add it to your schedule. Start small and build up to a more extensive program.

Another way to deal with chronic stress and worrying is to schedule relax time. Everyone needs a breather every now and then, but when we are stressed out it can be hard to find time to just relax and enjoy yourself. When you are going through a stressful situation and you are feeling extremely worried take a timeout. Even if it is only 5 minutes, take the time to decompress, breath and calm down. Take a step away from the problem and do something else, whether it is watching a funny clip on Instagram, reading a book or meditating allow yourself the ability to unwind.
Relax

Constant stress can harm you mentally and physically. It is very difficult to function when you are feeling that way. Using techniques such as exercising and scheduling relax time can help you combat the stress.
