You may not want to do it, but you have to

You may not want to do it, but you have to. You have to do it if you want to be successful. You have to do it if you want to move ahead. You have to do it if you want to grow.

But what is it? It is that thing you don’t want to do. It varies from person to person and from situation to situation, but we all have that thing that we do not want to do. It may pain you to actually do it. You may cry and complain before you do it, but honestly, you know that that thing that you don’t want to do can help launch your career. It can help you get where you want to be.

A few examples of things that you don’t want to do might be making sales calls. I know a lot of people who hate the thought of making a cold call. They cannot feel comfortable picking up the phone and dialing a stranger to offer them a sale. They may procrastinate before they pick up the phone, but in their industry, the most successful people are the ones who push their discomfort to the side and make the most calls.

Another example would be an entrepreneur taking another job in order to help their own company grow. Sometimes, you may have to push your ego out of the way in order to push yourself to the next level. An example of an entrepreneur who pushed his ego to the side to build his brand is Phil Knight, founder of Nike.

While Nike (known as Blue Ribbon at the time) was growing, Phil took several jobs in order to get Nike to its current state. There were times when Phil did not pay himself a salary. Instead, he focused his attention on his successful company, while also working as a CPA and an Accounting professor. ( Shoe Dog)

Stepping out of your comfort zone, making sacrifices, and doing what is necessary is very important when it comes to being successful. While not doing the thing that you dread may not break you, it can be the difference between achieving great success and being average. If you are looking to be at the top of your field and if you are looking for success you have to push fear and discomfort to the side and step out of your comfort zone.
